Would you like a certified therapy dog to visit your organization, school, institution, community group or in home or hospital hospice patient?
BPCC's Wet Nose Therapy Dog Program provides individuals and organizations access to compassionate and well trained therapy dog/handler teams. The Wet Nose Therapy Dog program volunteers enrich the lives of others through the human-dog connection by providing a welcome diversion from normal routines. This diversion gives people a sense of security and normalcy, a diminished sense of isolation, and an increased level of positive interconnectedness. BPCC's Wet Nose Therapy Dog program provides safe and effective visitations by our Wet Nose Therapist teams.
Many individuals and organizations have opened their doors to Therapy Dog visits. BPCC thoroughly screens handlers and their dogs to assure ability and temperament of both the dog and the handler. Volunteer Wet Nose Therapy Dog teams do not "provide assistance" for a disability, but instead offer love, affection, stress relief, and sometimes a little humor. Research shows that positive interactions with animals can benefit the health and wellbeing of people in crisis by increasing endorphins, oxytocin, prolactin and dopamine. These are the hormones associated with blood pressure regulation, pain relief, stress relief and joy. Visits from Therapy Dogs help to normalize stays away from home, improve motivation to participate in treatment protocols and lessen worry, anxiety, unhappiness and pain.
Our Therapy Dog program is run by executive director Janet A. Goldstein who has 35 years working with social service organizations which many of those years Janet used therapy dogs. She along with her standard poodle girl, Frankie, are certified by the AKC Canine Good Citizen as well as the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Along with other certified teams she will work to bring you the services you or your organization are requesting. Each team is fully insured by Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
